Fützen
Fützen is the town from which my family emigrated in 1848. I was lucky enough
to visit Fützen in October 1999 and again in October 2001. Fützen
is a small town that lies only 1 mile from Switzerland.

| Pictures from our first visit in October 1999. On our first trip to Fützen,
St. Vitus' Catholic Church was undergoing extensive interior
renovations. This includes restoration of the paintings
throughout the interior of the church. This did give me a chance to photograph some of the
artwork on the ceilings. This church was built between 1750 and 1755.

The Rathaus (town hall) houses an
elementary school on the upper floors. Most town governance has been consolidated in a town to the north
called Blumberg.
 |
The Sauschwänzlebahn railroad
runs along the edge of town and in fact in front of the some of the
Meister homes. This railroad runs steam engines and operates as a
museum. We rode the train during our trip of October 2001. There are two pubs in town. Neither opened until 6 PM so we did not get to go inside.
This is the house of Maria and
Johann Meister who live across the street from the Sauschwänzlebahn.
